CMC Tolerancing: How do dE, and the L:C interact?

CMC tolerancing provides three variables that control the size and shape of the resulting ellipsoid (the area deemed to be acceptable).

The first controlling variable is DeltaE itself. Increasing or decreasing this value retains the shape of the ellipsoid - - the lightness, hue, and chromatic components are all scaled up or down in unison

The "L" or lightness parameter increases or decreases the vertical zone of acceptance (how much L* error is acceptable).

The "C" or chromatic parameter increases or decreases the zone of acceptance with regards to the color's strength or saturation (C* error).

There is no direct control over the amount of hue error (h°) that is acceptable. This is achieved by manipulating DeltaE and the L:C ratio.
