RS232 Specifications - Photographic Instruments

The following factory defaults are true of all X-Rite photographic densitometers.

Word structure / rate

 1 start bit
 7 bits of data
1 parity bit set to SPACE condition
 1 stop bit
 1200 baud

While the baud rate may be edited in most instruments, the word structure is fixed. Note that some terminal programs cannot support MARK and SPACE options. Either of the following word structures will receive instrument data correctly.

 1200, 8, N, 1
 or
 1200, 7, S, 1

Each model in the photographic family offers different RS232 output options. As shipped from the factory the ASCII data looks like the following:

 n#.##<sp>n#.##<sp>n#.##<sp><cr><lf>
where:
 n designates the filter, V, R, G, or B
#.## is the ASCII value of the measured target
<sp> is a single space delimiting the numeric fields
<cr> is the carriage return character
<lf> is a single line feed character

If only a single field is enabled then the data takes the form:

 n#.##<cr><lf>
where:
 n designates the filters, V, R, G, or B
#.## is the ASCII value of the measured target
<cr> is the carriage return character
<lf> is a single line feed character

All 800 series instruments (& the 310T/R) support both the TechnetTM and TechnetTM Advanced data formats (related documents listed to the left).

For additional information describing these various output formats refer to the densitometer's operation manual and/or the RS232 supplement; XXX-506,where XXX is the model.
