As with everything we touch, our color measurement instruments are prone to contamination from germs and viruses. Our Hardware Team consulted CDC advice and put together steps to disinfect your benchtop and handheld devices.
Disinfection Warnings
- Do not immerse your device in liquid or apply any type of liquid directly on the instrument.
- Refrain from spraying disinfecting product directly onto the instrument surface, including foam disinfectants.
- Do not use products containing Ethyl alcohol, bleach, aggressive solvents, or abrasive cleaners.
- Ensure proper ventilation.
- After disinfecting allow sufficient time for alcohol solutions to dry and dissipate prior to restoring power to the instrument. Alcohol is flammable.
Disinfection Steps
These recommendations to disinfect hard surfaces follow the guidance of the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/ ) for disinfecting surfaces with an Isopropyl alcohol solution with at least 70% alcohol.
- Wear disposable gloves.
- Turn the instrument off and remove power.
- If the exterior of the instrument is dirty, first wipe it clean with a cloth dampened in water or mild cleaner.
- Moisten the wipe or disposable paper towel with a ≥70% Isopropyl alcohol solution and wipe the exterior surfaces of the instrument.
- If using a commercially available EPA-approved disinfecting product, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application, contact time, and proper ventilation to ensure safe and effective use.
- Dispose of the used paper towel or wipe after cleaning.
- Dispose of gloves and wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Disinfection Frequency
Since most instrument surfaces are in frequent contact with hands or skin, we recommended these surfaces are disinfected on a regular basis, either daily or with every operator change.
