Problem: One cause of a paint calibration set not performing correctly is that the maximum loading of the original cal set colorants were set too high resulting in predicted matches that are not acceptable.
Solution: Review the maximum percent (%) loading of the cal set colorant samples and determine the average maximum loading for each colorant based on your process or system and adjust each colorant accordingly. Re-create the cal set based on the newly formulated maximum loading and re-test the new cal set.
Note: For example, to adjust a paint system maximum loading it is suggested to reduce the known cross-mixes with clear so they achieve opacity at the desired dry film thickness. The maximum percent loading can be calculated by this additional percentage of clear.
