Description:
    • Six rechargeable "AA" nickle-metal hydride batteries in a removable battery pack.
    • Used in all SP and MA series instruments.
    • With proper charging the battery pack should last about 2 to 3 years.
    • 7.2VDC rated @ 1100mAh
    • Charge Time:
In Instrument - 4 hours (50% capacity), 16 hours (100% capacity)External from instrument - Approx. 16 hours.

Charging Instructions:
  1. Charging the battery pack in the instrument:
    • Place the battery in the instrument.
    • Plug the A/C adapter into the back of the instrument. (see figure 1)

    • The instrument may be used while charging, though the rate at which the batteries charge will be slowed depending on frequency of measurements.
    • A dead battery will be charged to 50% capacity in 4 hours and 100% in 16 hours.

  2. Charging the battery pack externally:
    • Plug the A/C adapter into jack on the battery pack. (see figure 2)
    • The instrument will not operate without a charged battery pack installed.

    • A dead battery will be charged to 100% capacity in approx. 16 hours.
    • Do not leave the battery plugged directly into the charger for more than 48 hours, as this will shorten the life of the batteries.

Troubleshooting:
  • Follow steps below for appropriate Error message.

 

Invalid Reading--Reset During Read, Check Batteries

 

    1. Have the batteries been charged in the instrument overnight?
YES _Go to question 2.NO _The batteries must be charged for at least 16 hours.

 

    1. Is the charger firmly plugged into the unit, plugged into a live outlet and working?
YES _Plug the charger directly into the battery for 4 hours and go to question 3.NO _Make certain the charger is plugged firmly in to the unit and the outlet is live or Replace charger (Part# SE30-61).

 

    1. Is the unit able to take measurements now?
YES _The instruments adapter plug or the charging circuit may be malfunctioning, the instrument needs servicing.NO_The battery must be replaced (part# MA58-05).

Invalid Reading--Batteries Too Low Must Be Charged

 

    1. Have the batteries been charged in the instrument overnight?
YES _Go to question 2.NO _The batteries must be charged for at least 4 hours or the charger must be plugged in for at least five minutes and left plugged in to continue taking accurate measurements.

 

    1. Is the charger firmly plugged into the unit, plugged into a live outlet and working?
YES _Plug the charger directly into the battery for 2 hours and go to question 3.NO _Make certain the charger is plugged firmly in to the unit and the outlet is live or Replace charger (Part# SE30-61).

 

    1. Is the unit able to take measurements now?
YES _The instruments adapter plug or the charging circuit may be malfunctioning, the instrument needs servicing.NO_The battery must be replaced (part# MA58-05).

 

  • If the instrument gives you an error message of 'Plaque Reflectance Change Cell = ##', this does not indicate a battery problem (cell does not mean battery). For more information, see the Related Support articles.
