i1Pro 2 No Longer Working In i1Profiler, Windows 11, MacOS 28 (soon)
We see many requests, where users buy second-hand i1Pro 2 or iO2 and then discover that i1Pro 2 does not work with the X-Rite i1Profiler software.
There are several possible reasons (hardware defects ruled out):
The i1Pro 2 / iO2 driver is not compatible with recent Windows 11 updates (25H2 or newer)
The i1Pro 2 is an OEM device and does not carry licenses for i1Profiler
i1Profiler v3.8.6 (last version supporting i1Pro 2) stops running on MacOS 28 (Q3 2027)
We recommend moving to a new i1Pro 3 solution: i1Pro 3 Family!
Please be aware that i1Pro 2 has been in the end of sale since 2019 and repair/service as well as technical application and software support has finally ended in January 2025. We recommend not buying any used i1Pro 2 / iO2 devices anymore, or if you are a 1st-hand owner of an i1Pro 2, a new i1Pro 3 solution is the best option, as we cannot provide technical help anymore. A self-service guide for troubleshooting some common issues with i1Pro 2 can still be found here i1Pro 2 Self Service Guide.
More information on the above-mentioned topics:
i1Pro 2 driver incompatibility: With the latest Windows 11 revisions (25H2, 26H1) Microsoft has introduced a new WHCP (Windows Hardware Compatibility Program), which refuses to install WHCP-unsigned drivers. The old i1Pro 2 drivers are blocked and there is no workaround. The drivers will not be updated anymore. i1Pro 3 / iO3 is compatible with latest Windows 11 releases.
i1Pro 2 OEM devices: Many i1Pro 2 devices were originally sold with product bundles from other vendors. These may not carry licenses for X-Rite i1Profiler software. Please refer to the i1Pro 2 Self Service Guide on how to check, if an i1Pro 2 carries licenses for i1Profiler.
i1Pro 2 on MacOS: X-Rite i1Profiler v3.8.6 is the last version supporting i1Pro 2 / iO2. I1Profiler v 3.8.6 will still run on MacOS 27 but manual installation of MacOS’s Rosetta mode will be necessary (Rosetta is a framework for running Intel based applications on the new 64-bit Silicon processors). With MacOS 28 (estimated for Q3 2027) the Rosetta mode will be discontinued, so i1Profiler 3.8.6 required for i1Pro 2 will no longer work.
