What will happen to my stored process data?

When an X-Rite 381 or 391 is serviced, it is upgraded to current manufacturing specifications. In many cases this includes the replacement of core memory (EEPROM). Should the repair technician perform this task he must reset the instrument's microprocessor to initialize the new firmware. This action completely wipes all stored data from the instrument's memory, returning the unit to 'like new' conditions. All customer data is destroyed!
Instruments returned to X-Rite for repair or recertification are often replaced (temporarily) with 'Service Loaner' equipment. X-Rite cannot guarantee that these 'Service Loaners' (densitometers or sensitometers) will exactly match a customer's equipment. To that end it is not unusual that accustomed AIMs for "Base+Fog", "Speed", "Contrast", "dMax", etc., will shift as the temporary equipment is used. Prior to sending an instrument in for service it is a good idea to perform the following steps (if the item to be serviced is functional): Densitometer is being sent in for service:
  1. Ensure that the mammography film processor is in good control!
  2. Expose, process, and measure a film for use with the loaner densitomer.
    Record how this film differs from wanted values (AIMs).
  3. Also record all historical data contained in the densitometer (where applicable).
    Note:  This data will be lost if the service technician is forced to reset the instrument's microprocessor during the service visit.
  4. Read the retained film as a process reference with the 'Service Loaner'.
  5. Where applicable, manually adjust the AIMs using the data recorded in step #2.
