When did you begin working on this system? ShadeVision represents a natural progression of the almost forty years of experience X-Rite has accumulated in the areas of color, shape, and light measurement. Some of our key color measurement technology is as a result of our acquisition of the O’Brien color measurement patents that date from the 1980s.
Is the system available in local languages? We intend on introducing the ShadeVision system in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. We have designed the system so that it will accommodate additional languages as markets demand.
Does the lab have to buy one? The accurate and complete communication of tooth appearance itself will be a significant advancement in communicating between the lab and the dentist. However, if the lab has the software they can view the extremely detailed view of the teeth that they must restore. If the lab has an instrument they can measure the restoration they have prepared and confirm its match with the information provided from the dentist. Confirmation of the match represents an excellent quality check for the lab as they close the loop with the dentist.
I’ve never heard of X-Rite, what else do you do in the dental industry? X-Rite, Incorporated manufactures and markets the world’s most complete line of instrumentation for measuring and managing color in a wide variety of color-critical applications. Customers use X-Rite instruments and software for corporate branding, medical diagnostics, consumer products and on-line commerce. We are applying our experience in color management to meet the need for better shade matching in dentistry.
Is the instrument in any way harmful to my patients? No, it simply projects a carefully controlled light source (the equivalent of natural daylight) against the targeted area and then specialized color filters measure the reflected light.
What is the warranty on the product? 12 months parts and labor. Extended warranties available.
What is X-Rites policy after the warranty period? We provide extended service and warranty programs on all products we sell.
What makes this different from just using a very good digital camera? Although color cameras produce a high resolution image that is pleasing to the eye, they are not designed for "instrumentation quality" data acquisition. To achieve high accuracy image data, X-Rite leverages color measurement capabilities common to it's other scientific instrumentation. The fundamental elements of the system are a carefully tailored illumination source, high accuracy color filtration, specialized electronic circuitry and tailored image processing algorithms. None of these elements are shared by even the highest cost digital camera systems.
