Customers need to know how to backup and restore a ShadeVision database to protect their patient dataPatient data is critical to a dental office or dental lab. With that in mind, it makes perfect sense to frequently backup and archive these important files. The ShadeVision system provides a utility, "Database Manager" that can perform this task quickly and easily. It is installed as a separate application during the initial software load and can be accessed from the Windows' "Start" menu. X-Rite informally suggests that back-ups be performed at least weekly. To back-up (or restore) your patient data proceed as follows.
Launch the Database Manager from your Windows' "Start" > "All Programs" > "ShadeVision" > "Database Manager". Note: If ShadeVision has not yet been registered, a registration screen will appear and a backup will not be able to be performed until the software is registered.
Click on the "Backup Database" option. The Backup screen displays the current version and the date of the most recent database backup.
Click on the folder icon to select an appropriate storage location for the backup.
Type in a descriptive name that will be easily recognized or remembered…for example: "ShadeVisionBackup". If you are lucky enough to be connected to a network, you may wish to consider placing your archive files on the server or another workstation. Chances of it and your local drive failing simultaneously are pretty slim.
Click "Save" to confirm your selections.
Click "Next" to begin the backup.
When the backup is complete, click "Finish". This exits the database backup process.
Restore Database (This function allows you to restore a database you previously backed up):
Launch the Database Manager from your Windows' "Start" menu. Note: If you have not yet registered your software you will be presented with a registration screen.
Click on the "Restore Database" option. The Restore screen displays the current version and the date of your most recent database backup. Note: It does NOT display the path or file name! It is critical then that you remember where your backups are stored!
Use the folder icon to browse to the desired location and file.
Click on the desired file (i.e., “ShadeVisionBackup.gbk” in the above example) to select.
Click "Open" to confirm your selection.
Click "Next" and then "Yes" to replace the current database and start the restore process.
When the restoration is complete, click "Finish". This exits the database restore process.
