Cleaning and Disinfecting the Shade-X Calibration Plaque
Users may need to know how to keep the Shade-X cal plaque clean
The calibration plaque located inside the cradle must be kept clean and smear free. Any residue or smudge marks will negatively affect the performance of Shade-X. An instrument that calibrates to a "dirty" calibration plaque will select an inaccurate shade assignment. Never place an instrument with a used tip in the cradle. The used tip will not only contact and contaminate the cal plaque but the plaque will now be smeared and the next calibration of the instrument will be invalid leading to inaccurate color measurement.
The use of a properly prepared enzymatic cleaner, water, disinfecting solution, disinfecting wipes, or isopropyl alcohol is recommended for cleaning. Please do not use any of the following chemicals in the cleaning process:
Iodophor based solutions
Acidic solutions with pH < 2.6
Basic solutions with pH > 12.49
To clean and/or disinfect the calibration plaque, follow these simple instructions:
Remove the calibration plaque holder at the front of the cradle by unthreading counter-clockwise. A coin can easily fit in the slot to assist in removing the holder.
Wipe down the calibration plaque and holder with an appropriate cleaner/disinfectant per manufacturer's guidelines.
The calibration plaque holder can also be immersed in a disinfection solution for a dwell time specified by the solution manufacturer. After immersion, please use clean (oil-free) pressurized air to blow excess liquid from the holder by using the vent holes located on either side of the slot.
Carefully remove any residue from the white surface of the calibration plaque. This can be done with a water damped cloth and then wipe dry with a lint free cloth such as a 2 x 2 gauze pad. Isopropyl alcohol can be used to clean the plaque as well.
It is critical to confirm that there are no smudges or fingerprints on the calibration plaque.
Align the plaque holder in the nose portion of the cradle opening and thread clockwise until snug.
