Aruba eZ and ShadeVision v.4.0

ShadeVision 4.0 may give database errors if Aruba eZ is installed on the same PC

ShadeVision v.4.0 and Aruba eZ (Henry Schein's online ordering software) manage their databases with conflicting database engines.  ShadeVision v.4.0 uses Firebird to manage its database while Aruba eZ uses InterBase.  In order for a user to access their ShadeVision v.4.0 database, the InterBase server ("ibserver.exe") must be shut down.  If the InterBase server is running when ShadeVision is open, the user will see a number of database errors while trying to access a work order or restoration file.  These two programs can run successfully on the same PC by following the steps below:

  1. Go to the computer's Control Panel by clicking on Windows "Start" > Control Panel or Windows "Start" > Settings > Control Panel, depending how your PC is set up.
  2. In Control Panel, locate the InterBase Manager icon:

  1. Right-click on the InterBase Manager icon and then select "Create Shortcut".  The following "Shortcut" window will appear:

  1. Select "Yes" to place the following shortcut icon on the desktop:

  1. Double-click on the new desktop icon to open InterBase Manager.

  1. Click on the "Stop" button to stop the InterBase Server.  If the Startup Mode is set to "Automatic" (as in the above screen grab), change it to "Manual".  Make sure that the InterBase Manager settings are set up as follows:

  1. Close InterBase Manager.

When Aruba eZ is used, the InterBase Server will automatically start running.  After the operator is done using Aruba eZ, they will need to simply open InterBase Manager by double-clicking on the new desktop startup icon and then click on the "Stop" button.  Close the InterBase Manager window and ShadeVision can now be used with no database errors.

Closing Aruba eZ will not stop the InterBase Server.  That is why the user MUST manually stop it after closing out of Aruba eZ.  Setting the Startup Mode to "Manual" will stop it from running when the PC starts up.
