Monitor Looks "Muddy" or Has a "Brown" Color Cast on Mac

If the display profile results in very noticeable brown color cast or “muddy” appearance, try the applicable workaround below.  It is extremely rare that this issue will occur.

If the display profile results in very noticeable brown color cast or “muddy” appearance, try the applicable workaround below.  It is extremely rare that this issue will occur.

Workaround for multiple displays on a single computer:

  1. Quit i1Profiler if it is running
  2. Only connect one display...disconnect any other displays
  3. Re-launch i1Profiler software
  4. Build a display profile for the connected display
  5. Now re-attach any other displays and profile them individually
  6. Open the Mac OS System Preferences
  7. Select the Displays item
  8. Click on the Color tab
  9. Be sure the proper profiles are selected for each display

Alternate Workaround (computers with a single display):

  1. Quit i1Profiler if it is running
  2. Open the System Preferences
  3. Click on Displays
  4. Click on the Color tab
  5. Uncheck the “Show profiles for this display only” option
  6. Click on any other profile in the list and notice the color cast on the screen should change
  7. Close the System Preference window
  8. Launch the i1Profiler software
  9. Build a new display profile for that display
