Color Cast After Profiling - Check the i1Display

Profiled a monitor on Lion with the new i1ProfilerD2Lion Edition software and now I have a color cast on the screen.  What is causing this?

Please check the measurement device first.  A defective device will likely provide similar poor results on multiple computers with different applications.  Check the i1Display2 colorimeter by profiling in the “Advanced” mode to specific settings (6500K white point, 2.2 gamma, and luminance to 120cd/m2) with i1Match3 on a supported operating system with a well behaved monitor.  An i1DisplayLT colorimeter will need to have the white point set to 6500K and gamma to 2.2 (no luminance option).  If a similar poor result is encountered, the colorimeter is likely to be defective.  Please note what the i1Match3 program reports the white point at in the “Set the White Point” screen.  If the current white point is significantly different than 6500K (most displays use 6500K natively), the resulting profile will show an unsatisfactory color cast.

If i1Match3 needs to be installed, feel free to use the following link:

The i1Display colorimeters are not serviceable.  If a defective device is still under warranty, X-Rite will replace it at no cost.  If it is out of warranty, you will need to purchase a new device.  Upgrading to a new i1Display Pro or ColorMunki Display would be a good choice if your device is out of warranty.

If the device works fine on a second computer using the aforementioned profile settings with i1Match3 but is providing poor results on Mac OSX 10.7x (Lion) with i1Profiler D2LionEdition, try the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the i1Display colorimeter
  2. Uninstall “i1Profiler D2LionEdition” by using a program such as “AppZapper” or simply drag the i1Profiler D2LionEdidtion application folder to the trash.
  3. Repair disk permissions
  4. Reboot the computer
  5. Reinstall i1Profiler D2LionEdition v.1.0.1.  Link is provided below.
  6. Connect your i1Display colorimeter.  This device requires power from the USB port.  Make sure to use a properly powered USB port.  Do not use keyboard or monitor USB ports.  If available, powered USB hubs (Belkin, Linksys, and Logitech are reliable brands) are an additional option.
