David Saffir
Professional Photographer and Printmaker; Author, Educator, Imaging and Color Management Consultant
David Saffir is an internationally recognized, award winning portrait, commercial photographer and fine art printmaker. He provides consulting services individuals and organizations worldwide. He lives near Los Angeles, in the Santa Clarita Valley, California.
He is the author of the book Mastering Digital Color: A Photographer's and Artist's Guide to Controlling Color, published by Thomson. His second book, focused on his photography, is titled The Joy of Discovery, and was published in Spring 2009.
Other publications include Rangefinder, Great Output, After Capture, Pro Photo West, Professional Digital Imaging Association, Professional Photographer, the HP Pro Photo Blog, Visionary Photographers, Digital Imaging Technology, and others. Topics include Photoshop, RAW file processing, color management, printing, fine art reproduction, landscape and portrait techniques, and more.
Examples of his instructional DVDs include a project for HP on Z3100 printer operation and fine art printmaking, and for PDIA on RIP evaluation and selection for photographers. He has also completed a full-length audio session for Mac Edition Radio on color management for photographers.
An accomplished digital printmaker, he finishes all of his work, and makes fine art prints for a range of artists and photographers. He has been a platform-level speaker at the Rencontres d’Arles photography conference (the Arles, France Photo Festival), Wedding and Portrait Photographers International, PMA, PPE, Photokina, and other venues.
He has taught workshops and seminars in the US and abroad, including the Clear Focus Studio Seminars, the Hasselblad PowerPro Tour, the HP Dreamcolor I and II workshops, Black and White digital, fine art reproduction, and fine art printmaking for HP. He has also been sponsored by HP to conduct master classes, portfolio reviews, and presentations at Photokina, in Cologne, Germany.
He has taught fine art printmaking at Santa Fe Workshops in 2008 and 2009, and is scheduled to teach Digital Fine Art Reproduction again in Santa Fe. Examples of his personal workshop series include California Central Coast for Photographers, and Fine Art Printmaking, Fine Art Reproduction, Photoshop/Adobe Camera RAW, in-studio automobile photography, fashion, and internet marketing.
Recent consulting and development projects include the HP Artist Solution for Nikon, a fine art reproduction system developed in an international collaborative effort between HP, Nikon, and Ergosoft.
